Development and Teaching of Cross-Faculty Units in Programs that are not based in Armidale Guideline

This is not a current document. It has been repealed and is no longer in force.

Section 1 - Guidelines

(1) These guidelines are subsidiary to and do not alter existing policies on the responsibilities of Schools, Faculties and the Academic Board in relation to new, amended or continuing units.

General principles for cross-faculty units in programs not based in Armidale

(2) All units taught in non-Armidale programs must be the academic responsibility of a specified School.

(3) The School with academic responsibility for a unit must have the relevant disciplinary expertise to be able to provide appropriate quality assurance for that unit.

(4) If the School with academic responsibility for a unit is not located within the Faculty that offers the non-Armidale program, the proposal to introduce the unit, and any later proposals for amendments to that unit, must be endorsed by the Teaching & Learning Committees of both the 'providing' Faculty and the 'receiving' Faculty.

(5) At the time when the cross-faculty unit is introduced in the non-Armidale program, the 'providing' School and the 'receiving' Faculty must agree on the teaching arrangements for the unit, and on the minimum period of notice that either party will be required to give to the other if the unit is to be discontinued or its teaching arrangements are to be varied by the 'providing' School; or if the unit is to be removed from the program by the 'receiving' Faculty. This agreed minimum notice period must be reported to the Academic Board Teaching & Learning Committee at the time when agreement is reached.

5. Clause 6 is a UNE quality assurance requirement and any agreement reached in this context may not thereafter be unilaterally breached by either party, notwithstanding any disputes that may arise about resources or other matters. The agreed minimum notice period may, however, be varied by the mutual consent of both parties, and this variation must be reported to the Academic Board Teaching & Learning Committee at the time when agreement to vary the minimum notice period is reached.
