(1) The purpose of this Rule is to establish an internal reporting system for staff to report wrongdoing without fear of reprisal. UNE is committed to protecting employees who report wrongdoing in the workplace. Some reports of wrongdoing may be classified as public interest disclosures under the Public Interest Disclosures Act 1994 (NSW) (PID Act). This Rule specifically addresses those types of reports. (2) This Rule is designed to complement normal communication channels between supervisors and staff. Staff are encouraged to raise matters of concern at any time with their supervisors, but also have the option of making a report about a public interest issue in accordance with this rule and the Public Interest Disclosures Act 1994 (PID Act). (3) The internal reporting system established under this rule is not intended to be used for staff grievances, which should be raised utilising the appropriate provisions in the UNE Enterprise Agreements current at that time. If a staff member makes a report under this rule which is substantially a grievance, the staff member will be advised that the matter should be lodged with People and Culture to be dealt with in accordance with the appropriate provisions in the UNE Enterprise Agreements current at that time.
